Local Machines You Need

To complete the exercise in this guide (and to use Amazon VPC in general), you need a local machine with access to the Internet and a local machine with access to the customer gateway that you set up during the exercise. You can use a single system to cover both types of access, or two systems, depending on your preference or how your network is set up. The following table and figure describe what each type of access is for. The figure shows two desktop systems.

If you're already an experienced EC2 user, you're familiar with the information in this topic. You probably already have a local machine that runs the command line tools (and has either an SSH client or Remote Desktop client). Make sure your local machine also has access to the customer gateway (and thus the VPN connection).
